Tj Kingsbury, MSW, LCSW, CCTP
Specializes in:
- Behavioral & Mental Health
- Substance Abuse
- Hospice & Home Health
- Trauma Informed Care
- LGBTQIA
Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, TJ is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years working in behavioral health and substance use across multiple settings. TJ’s social work career began as a hospice and home health social worker. In this role, he provided emotional support, counseling, and general resources to individuals and families facing difficult decisions during end-of-life care. He facilitated anticipatory grief and ongoing support groups both for patients and their family/loved ones, as well as provided support to other staff members. His experience in this field allowed him to learn more about end-of-life care, grief, and the medical system overall.
In 2016, TJ ventured into the field of incarceration and reentry, where he worked within the justice system to support currently incarcerated adults as they prepared for reintegration into the community after release from prison. TJ facilitated therapeutic groups and individual therapy sessions to address the various and diverse needs of clients, ranging from mental health, substance use, and trauma, to more tangible items such as transportation, housing, and clothing upon release, all within the constraints of maximum-security correctional facilities in both MO and IL. It was through this work with incarcerated adults that led TJ to begin furthering his knowledge of trauma, trauma-informed care, and the effects of toxic stress on individuals and communities, something he remains passionate about.
In October 2023, TJ began working as a Behavioral Health Advocate, where he engages members to provide advocacy and support by ensuring they are linked to appropriate treatment and community resources, receive necessary education, and promote optimal wellness and psychosocial functioning for all involved. As part of this role, TJ also acts as Specialty Liaison and referred to as a Subject-Matter Expert for needs specific to the LGBTQIA+ Community and helping develop this pilot program.
When he’s not working, TJ enjoys spending time with his daughter and their two dogs. Some favorite family activities include attending concerts and live music events, spending time outdoors whenever possible, and traveling.
